Internship: Data-driven process optimization for sustainable iron fuel

Do you want to help accelerate the energy transition? RIFT (Renewable Iron Fuel Technology) is a cleantech organization tackling one of the greatest challenges of our time: decarbonizing industrial heat. Using iron powder (Iron Fuel), RIFT is developing an innovative fuel that enables the generation of high-temperature heat without any direct CO₂ emissions.

At the INSPIRES pilot plant in Arnhem, valuable process data is continuously collected on the production of Iron Fuel. This data serves as a crucial source for monitoring, analyzing, and further optimizing the process. Through smart data analysis, RIFT can better understand, predict, and control process variations. These insights allow RIFT to take important steps toward further process improvements and directly contribute to the mission that drives us: industrial decarbonization with real impact.

What you’ll do as a Process Optimization Intern

• Investigate which multivariate statistical methods are suitable for analyzing process data from the pilot plant.

• Analyze raw sensor data to identify trends, deviations, and correlations.

• Apply descriptive statistics to gain insight into the basic characteristics of the data.

• Identify relationships between process variables, dependencies, and potential latent factors that influence process behavior.

Why you make a difference? You…

• Are studying Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field.

• Have experience with data analysis and statistics, preferably multivariate methods.

• Have an affinity for sustainable energy/cleantech applications.

• Are curious and independent in designing analyses and testing hypotheses.

• Able to flexibly handle uncertainties in an innovative research project and maintain focus on your work.
